Positive way to start a home school day

I've been fortunate to spend the past several months home schooling my 7 year old grandson. He is not so fortunate to have epilepsy. Although most days are fine, you always have to be prepared to notice a stare - a distance - a change. One of the most important things I have him do each morning before our lessons start is reading POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS FOR CHILDREN: (this is a list I found online)
1. I believe in me.
2. I am special, there in no-one else like me.
3. I am proud to be different.
4. I have great ideas.
5. If I think I can, I can.
6. Mistakes are OK, they help me learn.
7. I choose to make today a great day.

I also added these for days that are are a bit trying-

1.While learning, I will remember to ask question if I don't understand.
2.I will try my very best to PAY ATTENTION.
3.If I am confused, I won't get mad. Instead, I'll tell someone I don't understand.
4.We will make learning fun. Learning can come from games and fieldtrips.
5. It is important that we use our school time doing our work first, so we can spend time playing later.

I typed this and put in a plastic sleeve. He finds it on his desk each day, and eagerly reads it all. Once he even boasts - after reading I am proud to be different, he said YES I AM!

special talks at night

Only at bedtime do you really ask all the questions you want to know about as a child. Jordan constantly asks - how did he die? - How did she die?. He has been introduced to every member of my deceased family. He knows their names, what they look like, what they liked to do. Most of all he wants to meet them in heaven. Not your normal conversation with a seven year old, but I find it heartwarming that a small child has such an interest in their ancestors, the way my life was affected by them and of course the knowledge that one day we will all meet.
Seems a little weird that this would bring me comfort, but in all the horror of our everyday lives, the simple talks - the honest talks - the curious child will bring a joy nothing else these days can do.

Honesty and Originality

It is hard to keep small business in America going these days. It takes more than dedication and hard work, you need to have a great product, great price and wonderful customer service. Still, that's no guarantee you'll pull thru these hard times. At TUKI COVERS, we still make all our products here ( USA ) We work with people to give them what they want and need with amp and speaker covers. Most important we have spent hours writing and building our website www.tukicovers.com. It is upsetting to see a competitor steal your writing, design and even your beginning. Honesty is key to a business succeeding. Thank you to all our customers. We don't have to tell you who was first and how we began, but truth be known I wrote the story (someone else copied it) We are TUKI COVERS and From The Beginning was my idea.

prayer for Jordan

If I prayed for your today to make it go away and I held your hand while we slept last night. Would God hear all my requests and knowing what is best, give you a chance to live an easy life. It breaks our heart to see you drift away it seems things are never going to be the same and I'd give up all I own I'd give you anything just to make you be alright again. It breaks our heart to see you this way, you're such a special child in every way and every day. I don't know how to say just how much you changed our lives but we need you to be OK. More than anything Jordan More than anything We love you and I want an answer for my prayer. I need you to be OK no matter how much pain I feel I just need you to be a child without all the heavy load- a child that is free to play a child that always makes my day - that's all I pray. Dear God make my Jordan OK. AMEN

Free Field Trip

The best things in life are free, like going to the beach, mountains, on a picnic... well we just found a new FREE FUN outing on our vacation. Jordan, now 7 years old, is so into the weather, I called our local channel 2 news in Mount Pleasant SC to see if they ever gave a tour of the weather station, and we had a blast. We were fortunate enough to have a wonderful weather man- Josh Mathers- give us a private tour of the entire station. He included lots of tidbits we'd never thought to ask, but found quite interesting - not only for kids but grandparents too. What a wonderful thing to do - Thanks Josh for the exceptional hospitality. Great fun and educational too. We'll keep our weather eyes on alert with channel 2 news.

the best of times

Rememember your best birthday party? your favorite Christmas present? the most special place you went as a kid? did you go to camp? grandmas house and watch her kill a chicken? was there a wonderful mountain trail with a waterfall you enjoyed seeing? Did you climb up a tree & couldn't get down? go to school with your pajamas on? All these things are wonderful stories to write down and read to your grandchildren. Not only will they get to share your experiences, but the memories become more precious as you tell them. We started a book for our grandsons, stories when we were little. As we can remember them, we write in our journal and share with the boys. One day, they will have a keepsake that was our life- in cute, short, fun stories.
